TIS is developing a Destination Stewardship Assessment using the IDEAL Destination Standard, the only GSTC-Recognized standard in the United States, and the only standard that has produced five certified destinations.

 

for communities where the central question is not simply whether visitation is creating value, but whether tourism and visitor pressure are being managed in a way that protects community value over time.

• Resident impacts and quality of life

• Natural and cultural resource stewardship

• Destination management and governance

• Stewardship funding and coordination

• Responsible travel communications

• Climate, crowding, access, and resilience

• Long-term destination health

Difference from Community Value assessment

Which tool should I use now?

Use the Community Value Self-Assessment if your current focus is outdoor economy development, trail-to-town connections, local benefit, and the systems that turn outdoor recreation into community value.

The Destination Stewardship Self-Assessment will be better suited for destinations focused on managing established visitation, broader impacts, stewardship systems, and long-term resilience.
